Our Projects
|
The Jhai Foundation works using what we call a reconciliation model. This means
developing personal relationships with our partners, and helping them develop
sustainable short and long term plans based on their priorities. Through
this process, we and our friends in Laos and elsewhere both improve our lives and
help heal the damage of war. We have been honored with a "Best Practices" award
from the United Nations Secretariat, e-ASEAN, UNESCO (Bangkok), the government of
Lao PDR and others.
Our projects include:
Coffee - Jhai Coffee Farmers
Cooperative is now spun off and independent. Altogether 51 villages are cooperating.
We helped small coffee farmers in Laos create a farmers cooperative, and develop
more efficient farming techniques. We also helped the farmers export coffee to the US.
Education - Our Internet Learning Centers project was the
winner of the Stockholm Challenge award. We are in the process of expanding the
sustainable model for the Centers. We have extended this model to 10 more schools and
have added master teacher training for curriculum development to our tool kit.
Information Technology -
The Jhai PC and Communication System is a computer and communications system designed
to meet the needs of villagers in remote and rural areas. It has been requested by
people in 60 countries.
Economic Development - We use the reconciliation model of
economic development. We work personally with our partners to build on the assets they
already have, and improve their lives according to their priorities. This has led us
to assist in projects in computer-assisted development, weaving, livestock, wells, and
more.
